History making Confluence Queens’ striker, Mercy Omokwe has set her eyes of scoring more goals after helping her side to a bright start to the new Nigeria Women Premier League, NWPL season.
Confluence Queens hammered Pelican Stars of Calabar 4-0 in the Matchday of the new season on Wednesday in Lokoja with Omokwe scoring three of the goals after Winifred Eyhebora had opened the score sheet for the hosts.
The former Nasarawa Amazons’ forward who was elated to have opened her new season account with first hat trick of the new campaign thanked her team mates and coaches for the motivation and support just as she promised to improve on her performance to help the New Direction Queens achieve more greatness at the end of the season.
“It feels so good to start the season this way and I thank God for the opportunity to convert those chances I believe it will be start of more to come.
“I’m not too desperate to get personal records but I’d like to help the team go far and higher this season, I don’t really have a certain number of goals I wish to score but I’d be happy to make a double digits goals at the end most importantly they should help us win something,” she said.
Apart from Mercy Omokwe scoring first hat trick of the season, Eyheboha also make history as she scored the fastest goal of the new campaign which has now see the Lokoja based club topping the group on goal difference.
Confluence Queens will next travel to Oshogbo where they will be taken on Osun Babes in the Matchday 2 of the new season.
