She revealed that the idea behind Women’s Football Rising had been in the works for over six to seven years, but the platform to bring it to life had only recently materialized.
Obi highlighted the board’s proactive approach, saying, “We took a long look at where we were, where we hoped to be, who we needed to talk to, and how we needed to restructure.
The result of this soul-searching gave rise to Women’s Football Rising, which encompasses capacity development, football and the girl child, and stakeholder engagement.”
The NWFL’s ambitious goals were presented through a video, outlining plans for 16 premiership leagues, 20 championship leagues, and 180 state leagues—a significant increase from the previous board’s objectives.

The league aims to host 820 matches every week on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, involving 7,000 players, coaches, and officials.
The introduction of new initiatives, including the He4She campaign, Sisterhood campaign, Football, and the Girl Child campaign, and the class to pitch campaign in collaboration with the Sports Business Institute, reflects the NWFL’s commitment to educating and empowering young women, enabling them to enhance their lives through sports.
