NWFL25: Ibom Angels Hold Bayelsa Queens To  Thrilling Goalless Draw In Uyo

The Uyo Township Stadium witnessed an intense clash on Matchday 2 of the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) Premiership as Ibom Angels held defending champions Bayelsa Queens to a dramatic 0-0 draw.

The match, full of excitement and controversy, left fans on the edge of their seats.

Bayelsa Queens thought they had snatched a late winner when Kindness Ifeanyi found the back of the net in the 88th minute, only for the assistant referee (AR1) to flag for offside, disallowing the goal.

The decision preserved the clean sheet for Ibom Angels, who celebrated the result as a hard-fought point against the visiting Prosperity Girls.

Speaking after the match, Bayelsa Queens’ technical adviser, Whyte Ogbonda, praised his team’s performance but acknowledged the challenges they faced.

“Our initial plan was to get maximum points in Uyo, but we met a different Ibom Angels,” Ogbonda said. “Honestly, I give kudos to my girls; they played well. But that’s football for you. Football can be cruel – you win some, draw some, and lose some.”

Despite the draw, Coach Ogbonda remained optimistic, emphasizing the need to work on the team’s shortcomings.

“We will go back home, analyze our lapses, and come back stronger for the next game,” he added.

Bayelsa Queens will now turn their focus to Matchday 3, where they will face debutants Benue Queens at the Lafia City Stadium in Nasarawa State on Wednesday, January 29, 2025.

Meanwhile, Ibom Angels will look to build on their spirited performance in their upcoming fixtures.
