As the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) 20/21 professional football league kick-off, Edo State Deputy Governor His Excellency Rt.Hon.Comrade Philip Shaibu will lead a delegation of top government functionaries to Dr.Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium Benin-City the Edo State Capital to cheer the state darling female team Edo Queens FC to victory in their first NWFL professional opening game against the visiting Royal Queens FC of Delta State.

Rt.Hon. Philip Shaibu, who has been the driving force of Sports development in the State disclosed this on Monday during an inspection tour of facilities at the Stadium.

“I think we are good to go, am happy with the structure on ground, Edo State Edo has always been first in Sporting activities in Nigeria, and thank God that this government has done everything we told Edo people we are going to do to bring back our lost glory in Sports.”

“Dr. Samuel Osagbovo Ogbemudia Stadium is currently one of the best in Nigeria if not the best. We saw the International football match played here last month between Nigeria Super Eagles and their counterpart from Sierra Leone. Again on Wednesday the 9th of December 2020, we would be here to watch a top-flight NWFL professional league match between Edo Queens FC and Royal Queens FC of Delta State. Top government officials will be around to watch a good display of soccer artistry by our State darling team Edo Queens. This first NWFL game is very important to us, this is why our fans should come and cheer their team to victory.”

“Again the PTF and World COVID-19 rules must be adhered to strictly, fans coming to watch the game must be on the screen, observe social distancing, and also wear their face masks. We are also very confident that Edo Queens will play well and smile home with victory at the end of the game.”

Meanwhile, Edo Queens talismanic central defender Ogechi Joseph has said that today’s first NWFL clash match- up against Royal Queens would be a sweet one for Edo Queens.

“We are ready for the game, Edo Queens is not scared of any side, we are going into the game with the songs of victory in our mouths, We are also happy that we are playing our very first league match at this beautiful stadium. We pray to God to give us this day.”

The last time Edo Queens and Royal Queens lined up against each other was in the recently concluded Flying Officers pre-Season tournament held in Abuja, the game ended 1-1. But during the last Seasons’ FA Cup Edo Queens pip them by a lone goal at Nnaka Township Stadium in Anambra State.
