Nigeria Women Football League Defending Champions, Bayelsa Queens are back in the final of the Nigeria Women League and are up against the representative of the host state, Delta Queens in the Super 6 Championship decider.
Apart from the prize money, the ticket to represent Nigeria in the CAF Champions League via the WAFU qualifiers is at stake and that has become the major motivating factor for Bayelsa Queens, according to the team’s Technical Director, Hakeem Busari.
Speaking to news men at a press conference put together by NWFL, the organizers of the league, Hakeem Busari didn’t mince words when he revealed that the team is desperate to make a CAF Champions League return.
“We have tasted the CAF Champions League, we know the terrain and we want to go back for unfinished business. We are sure we will perform so well, we we will give Nigeria a 2nd slot going forward”, the former Gateway FC handler disclosed confidently.
“We have been there before, we already know the terrain, anybody coming in afresh is going to start all over again”, Hakeem Busari added to further drive home the need to make their sojourn in the CAF Champions League a lasting and memorable one this time.
It would be recalled that Bayelsa Queens despite the high expectations, faltered at the Semi-final stage of the CAF Women Champions League in Morocco last year although the team did themselves some good by winning the Bronze medal with a 1-0 victory over Simba Queens of Tanzania.
“We respect our opponents and we will give them a great final. “It is going to be a mental strength game. We have told our girls to be calm, to be relaxed and we will be disciplined all through”, Hakeem Busari, also an FCAAN Global Coaching Instructor concluded as he rounded off his assessment of Bayelsa Queens opponent, Delta Queens going into Sunday’s final.
The First Lady of Delta State, Chief Mrs Tobore Oborevwori is expected as the guest of honour on the last day of the Nigeria Women Football League at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, Delta State.
