Edo State governor His Excellency Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki, has hail Edo Queens Football Club for their scintillating performance in the just concluded Nigeria Women Football League NWFL regular season.
Addressing players and officials, on behalf of the governor during a reception party organized by the State government for the entire team and management, the wife of the State Governor Her Excellency Dr. Betsy Obaseki, showered encomiums on the entire team for doing the State proud, she charged them to go all out for the trophy, adding that Edo Queens has become a house hold name in the map of women soccer across the globe.
She maintained that the state government will continue to provide the necessary logistic needed for sports to excel in the State.
“I want to commend everyone that have find time to be here this evening, the governor has asked me and his Deputy His Excellency Godwin Marvellous Omobayo, to come and receive you girls celebrate you also for not disappointing the State. He said I should tell you that the government is solidly behind you, and to thank you for your excellent outing at the just concluded regular season of the Nigeria Women Football League premiership.
That you qualified for the Super 6 is something that calls for celebration, hence we are here today to say thank and to also tell sports men and women of Edo State that the Godwin Obaseki led government will continue to support youth development programmes that will make our sports men and women excel in their chosen career.”
“You all know that sports in Edo State was completely in a decaying state before this administration came in, it’s takes a visionary leader like His Excellency Godwin Obaseki, to do what he is doing in the State today. For the past seven years, this administration has do a lot of tangible things, he has turned the fortune of the state around. He is not finish yet, by the special grace of God he will continue to provide the necessary logistics needed for our young talented sports men and women to thrive.”
“You will all agree with me that sports world over has became a global business, and young talented boys and girls have made fortune out of it. We are also happy that Edo Queens FC and Bendel Insurance players are great beneficiaries this sports template initiated by this visionary government of Mr. Governor.”
“His Excellency is supposed to be here, but he told me to go and represent him because of gender issue. You will agree with me that Edo Queens are great beneficiary of the Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament, they are the defending Champions. And I will also charge them to intensify their efforts and training to make sure they conquer again. Now that you have qualified for the Super 6, the governor has said I should tell you to go out there and win the league at the Super six. I know that you girls have what it’s takes to do it, so go there win the trophy and bring us the continental ticket.”
“For crossing the first huddle, His Excellency Mr. Governor has asked me to boost Edo Queens with (N5m) five million naira just to ginger you girls up for the challenge ahead.
Meanwhile, Edo State Sports Commission Chairman Yussuf Alli, has also commended the players for qualifying for the Super 6, as well as the Executive Governor Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki, his wife the first Lady Her Excellency Betsy Obaseki, and other top government functionaries for their supports in making his job easy.
He maintained that he will continue to do his best for the state, he also call for more supports from the state government in the areas of logistics.
“In all my life I have not done any other business apart from sports, sports we all know is money sapping, is not like other businesses were you expect immediate return or profit. It is solely on human capacity building. Our amiable governor has done so well, and I know he will continue to do more for us. So I want to specially thank her Excellency wife of the governor Dr. Betsy Obaseki for the supports. I promise you that Edo Queens will not disappoint you, they will do everything within their sports prowess to win laurels for the State as they prepare for the Super 6 fiesta.”
Also the Deputy Governor His Excellency Godwin Marvellous Omobayo, has also promise to thrown his weight behind Edo Queens and Bendel Insurance FC.
He charged them to be good ambassadors of the State, adding that Edo State young sports men and women have done great exploits in many areas of sports across the World.
” I’m very happy to associate with Edo sports family, am not known for failure, so my identifying with sports will definitely usher in blessings and medals for Edo State sports men and women because I carry great anointing. And we would continue to supports sports programmes and policies that will bring great joy to our people especially in the sports industry. So I want to thank you for qualification for the Super six football competition. You should know that is over yet, there are more rivers to cross. What the government need is go out there and conquer.”
