Nigeria’s new women’s league champions, Edo Queens of Benin City, are already focusing on the next challenge ahead of them, and one of their key players, Emem Essien says they will be ready.
Even before the dust settled on their first-ever conquest of the Nigerian Women Football League (NWFL) Super-6, Essien said they always worked hard for good results, and they could not afford to rest on their oars.

She also spoke about her emergence as the NWFL’s overall best player of the season and admitted it came as a pleasant surprise to her.
Essien, who scored Edo Queens’ goal in their title-winning match on Sunday, disclosed, “I am very, very happy … over happy.
I never expected this award, and I very, very much appreciate it.
“The biggest lesson that I am taking back home is to always be prepared and determined. That is why we are already thinking of the next challenge.
“We are ready to take on the next one that is coming our way. I know we have another crucial game ahead of us.
“That should be the one in which we’ll be fighting for what record we are going to get. I pray that God will help us, in Jesus’ name,” she stated.
Essien concluded with a ray of hope that the new Nigeria women football league champions will bring continental glory back to the country.
