Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt are bound to face an uphill task in their desire to win this year’s Nigerian Women Football League (NWFL) Super-6 on Sunday, as their opponents, Heartland Queens of Owerri are blowing hot.
Heading into the last day of action in this year’s NWFL Super-6, Rivers Angels stand joint-second on the log with Bayelsa Queens on eight points each, while Edo Queens of Benin City lead with nine and Heartland are last.

Rivers Angels would take the title if they defeat Heartland Queens by any margin, once Bayelsa and Edo Queens settle for a draw, which many observers believe is very plausible.
However, a member of Heartland’s coaching crew, ex-international defender, Stella Mbachu disclosed that her team is eager to play spolier and throw the title race wide open.
She pointed at their spirited draw on Friday as an indication of what can happen under unexpected circumstances in top league matches.
Mbachu declared at length: “That’s Football for you. You cannot predict football, and no game is the same. That’s why it is exciting. All games are different … with their own tension and anxiety.
“People said today was our best game, but, for me, that is not on my agenda, because I wanted us to win. Had it been we won, then it would have been my best game.
“That’s football – either you lose, you win, or you draw. So, we take whatever comes our way. Thank God, at the end of the day, we had a draw. So, it’s good.”
The former Super Falcons’ star then spoke about her plans for Sunday’s clash with Rivers Angels, which will start at 12 pm and precede the ultimate decider between Edo Queens and Bayelsa Queens, while Confluence Queens tango Nasarawa Amazons at 2 pm.
“For our last game, some people are saying it’s over for us. How can I say so? No game is the same. No game is the same. So, we will go for that game as usual.
“We’ll have our match plan that day. We’ll make our plan to execute the match and go through with it. That is football… anything can happen.
“No one should expect from us any cheap movement. That’s how we’ll throw the competition open for everybody. If they mess up that day, we’ll carry the day,” Mbachu boasted emphatically
