In the wake of the encounter at Samson Siasia Stadium, Essien disclosed that her target had been to net a hat-trick, but she thanked God for still making her an inspiration to her colleagues.

“This is the third time we are partaking in this tournament. The last time, we couldn’t win two or three matches. So, this is a good start.”I just believe this Cup will come to Edo Queens this time.”
She then spoke about what had been her personal target heading into Saturday’s match and what she expects from the second game on Monday.
“I wanted to score three goals, not just two; but, with God, I still appreciate these two, and my next target is to get three.
“I give the next match and all the others over to God. I can’t predict what will come up, but I believe victory will come for us,” Emem Essien posited with an air of spiritual confidence.
