The battle for the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) 2021/2022 premiership crown by the six top finishers in the 2021/22 regular season will begin on May 16 in the ancient city of Benin following the draws for the tournament which held in Lagos on Tuesday, may 4.
The six participating teams include Nasarawa Amazons, Edo Queens FC and Naija Ratels who qualified from the Northern Conference while the defending champions Rivers Angels, Bayelsa Queens, and Delta Queens made it from the Southern Conference.
No doubt the camps of the teams are bubbling with plans and preparations in top gear as some of the clubs have successfully boosted their teams by signing some new players on loan to help fill some gaps and finally build up their teams in readiness for the NWFL Super Six fiesta.
In Edo Queens FC, the atmosphere is not different as their camp is already boisterous with preparations. As host state club, Edo Queens have been up and doing in the bid to surpass their feat in the last edition outing.
For Edo Queens camp in Benin-City, preparations are in top form that every registered player of the team looked charged up for the epic battle as the technical crew are exploring every opportunity to make sure that the players are physically and mentally fit for the competition.
Judging from their performance at the regular season and encouragement from their chairman and Deputy Governor Rt.Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, who regularly train with them, Edo Queens players are fully equipped to give their teeming fans the best when they take on their opponents in the Super Six tournament proper.
The NWFL Super six is the biggest stage of Women Football Competition in Nigeria that is well structured and organized for the six top participanting teams do battle against each other to determine who becomes Champions of the NWFL 2021/2022 premiership season, as well as who will also fly Nigeria’s flag at the continental level, the second edition of Africa Women’s Champions League.
The Super six will no doubt be a game to test the technical and tactical abilities of the participanting coaches. It is a competition where no team will show respect for each other; it is a competition where skills, strength, experience, endurance and impact of professionalism of coaches and the players will be brought to bare.
As part of build up for the Super six fiesta, Edo Queens FC was not left out in the transfer market as they got the services of three players on loan. Esther Onyenezide, Shukurat Oladipupo, both from FC Robo, and Linda Jiwuaku from Confluence Queens FC are the new additions for the Wemimo – led Queens.
The two FC Robo players have since resumed training with Edo Queens while Linda Jiwuaku is expected to join the team immediately after her national assignment with the Super Falcons.
As football fans await the glamorous kick of the Super six tentatively fixed for 16th of this month, it is expected that a high level performance is put up by the host team Edo Queens, bearing in mind that the target is the league trophy.
Matthew Wemimo- led girls have also vowed to reciprocate government kind gesture by winning the prestigious league trophy for the season as that is the only way to make Edo State government proud.
Edo Queens FC is one team in NWFL that have enjoyed first class treatment this season as they have been flying to all club engagements outside Edo by air. Kudos to the amiable Deputy Governor Rt.Hon. Philip Shaibu, and other top management team members for their visionary leadership.
