The second game of this year’s NWFL Super-6 series will be played simultaneously at 12 pm at the Samson Siasi stadium, between table-topping Edo Queens of Benin City (on nine points) and third placed hosts, Bayelsa Queens, who have eight points – same with Rivers Angels.
Many observers have already concluded that the above match will most likely end in a draw, which would leave Edo Queens on 10 points and Bayelsa Queens with nine, thereby giving Rivers Angels the title with 11 points if they defeat last placed Heartland Queens.
Based on these permutations and, while casting a look ahead of Sunday’s game, Okwuchukwu said she was happy with her brace of goals that sank Confluence Queens of Lokoja 2-0 on Friday and declared that she is determined to do even better on Sunday.
The in-form player also thanked the club’s training drills and her teammates for supporting her efforts during Friday’s victory, which she admitted, did not come easy.
She then pointed out that her team’s physicality and stamina made a world of difference, hence her ability to score the game’s two goals in the 70th and 90th minutes.
Okwuchukwu added: “It was not easy because we were in a haste to score many goals that would keep us at the top of the table.
“Before coming to the Super-6, we knew it’s a big stage, and we decided to train harder. We went the extra mile in terms of training. That’s why we are all fit.
“I am happy with my efforts and the energy with which I play. It’s due to regular training and determination.
“We also respect our bodies by leaving some certain things. We deny our bodies certain things and rely on nature to help us with what we are all supposed to do.”
Okwuchukwu then spoke about the possibility of lifting the 2024 NWFL trophy on Sunday and enthused: “It would be a great privilege and honour to me winning this title; and it would boost my profile.
“It would be my first time lifting the trophy for Rivers Angels. That’s why, for Sunday’s match, I want to give my excellent performance.
“By the grace of God, all we want is victory, nothing less than three points and more goals.”
