The Nigeria Women Football League Super Six entered day two at the Dipo Dina International Stadium in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State with FC Robo from Lagos handing Bayelsa Queens their worst defeat with a convincing two goals to nothing victory.
Both teams started the match knowing that a victory will rep them amongst the leading pack after drawing their opener against Sunshine Queens and Rivers Angels on day one.
The Gloryland Girls were quickest to settle into their passing stride with Celine Ottah and Amanda Mbanda controlling the Medfield. but the strong defending from FC Robo prevented any meaningful penetration.
Two defensive errors within the space of two minutes turned the match on its head. First when Abidemi Ibe’s indecision and poor communication with Goalkeeper Okeke Onyinyechukwu saw Robo Lawal Taiwo steal the ball from Abidemi Ibe to score on 35th minutes.
Bayelsa Queens had barely recovered from that shocker when another indecision in the 18 years box between Abidemi Ibe and Anibaba Ayomide gifted top scorer Monday Gift too late in the second for her team on 37th minutes to end the half with a two-goal cushion.
The second half started with Coach Moses Aduku making a triple substitution by introducing Peace Efih, Precious Vincent, and Oluwakemi Famuditi. but the Lagos-based side slowed down the pace of the game.
As the game wore on, FC Robo became more relaxed with Bayelsa Queens searching for a goal with Precious Vincent’s free-kick inches wide. Charity Rueben also came close with another free-kick not troubling Goalkeeper Adegbite Bukola for Robo.
An elated owner and coach of FC Robo Emmanuel Osahon Orobosa stated that his game plan worked perfectly by converting defenders to play in the attacking position having lost to Bayelsa Queens in Yenagoa earlier in the season.
On his part Coach, Moses Aduku stated that his girl’s momentary loss of concentration and poor communication between defenders and Goalkeeper cost them the match. but still believes that his girls will bounce back stronger in their next game.
The conclusion of matchday two in the Super Six, FC Robo leads the pack with 4 points with a plus 2 goals advantage, followed by Delta Queens and Sunshine Queens also on the same number of points. Rivers Angels are on 2 points, Bayelsa Queens on one point, and Edo Queens yet to record any.
The teams will observe Wednesday as a rest day with hostilities to resume on Thursday with matchday four.
