Pelican Stars Head Coach, Sanusi Muritala Olaleke was full of praises to God and thankful to his players after his side picked up their first win of the season, doing it away at Dreamstar Ladies as they ran out 1-0 winners at the Agege Stadium.
“When you’re playing a match under tension and pressure from ours, there’s no way u won’t pray. People have been saying things like disband the team, remove the coach, and all sorts but I kept hoping on my players, encouraging them and that’s why you see them praising God,” said Coach Sanusi Muritala Olaleke of Pelican Stars FC in an interview with Sports247.
When asked if this result is the turning point and just what Pelican stars needed to turn their season around, the coach said “it’s one of the tonics. When you go to an away match and get a result like this, it will be a motivation to them and even people at home will know they can do it too. I just need the fans of Cross River to keep praying for the team. It’s not by criticizing them but by supporting them.”
Pelican Stars went into the matchday six of the NWFL bottom of the table with two points from five games but now move two places up to 12th above the relegation zone on the 14-team log.
