With the Nigeria Women’s Football League already stated to end after matchday thirteen and the top six team to play in the Super Six playoffs in to get the league champions in other to adjust and provide a team to play in the first edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League before the time elapses, all teams in the top six have begun to shift attention to the playoffs.
Edo Queens who were without their captain, Nigerian International Glory Ogbonna lost 2-1 away to Pelican Stars but that did not stop them from finishing in the top six. They finished fourth with 23points from 13 games.
Glory Ogbonna speaking to Sports247 explained her absence as being due to a National assignment and also how focused the team is on the playoffs.
“I didn’t travel to Calabar for the game because of some National assignment and it’s quite unfortunate the assignment was called off after the team must have traveled, so there was no way I could meet up,” Glory said.
“We lost to Pelican Stars 2-1 and it was a good fight as all teams were fighting to move up and no team is a left out team but that’s behind. My happiness and our focus now is on the super six and we’re among the teams contesting in that to know the teams that will go to the CAF Championship. That’s the main focus now and every other game has been put aside and we look forward to the super six,” Glory added.
