The General Co-ordinator of the Nigeria Women Football League Nationwide League, the third tier of the women’s league, Sir Joe Amene, has predicted a crunch competition when action begins at the Benin City venues on April 23, 2022.
Amene, stated that his prediction for a tough league is based on the current form of all the sixteen clubs confirmed for the league.
He added that: “Majority of the clubs from all indications, are well prepared for the 2021/2022 Nationwide League as they have been involved in pre- tournament friendly matches and mini competitions.
“The indicator is that these clubs that have been recording great results in these pre- tournament events, will surely replicate their great performances at the Nationwide League in Benin City from April 23.
“For instance, the Lagos clubs, northern clubs, teams from the eastern part of the country, Edo state, Ekiti and Delta, have been very active since the beginning of the year playing one tournament of the other to keep their players active and battle ready for the huge task of gaining promotion from the Nationwide League to the NWFL Championship, the professional cadre of the women’s football league.”
The Coordinator stated: “Lakeside Queens of Lagos aside from other friendly games they have been playing just won the
Helper’s House Unity Cup after defeating another Nationwide League team, P. Kazeem Eletu Queens Fc in the final. Other Lagos teams; Unification FC and Papa Soccer, are in great form too.
“FC Niger Amazon and Abruka Fc, the two teams from the northern part of the country, have not relented in their preparations since the beginning of this year. Imo Strikers FC and Ubalaka Queens from the Eastern part of Nigeria have been playing friendly tournaments and games since January this year preparing for the 2021/2022 NWFL Nationwide League. Not to forget Fortress Queens of Benin City that recently won the WAFA Division Two League title in Lagos. Fortress are one of the three teams coming from Edo State. The rest include Brave Hearts FC and Celestial Queens Fc. Surprisingly, we have a team from “Ijebu-Ode, the Ijebu United Queens and Castmog FA from Ogun State.
“The teams from Delta and Ekiti are also no push overs. In a nutshell, this year’s NWFL Nationwide League will be a very tough competition when actions begin on Saturday, April 23, at the Western Boys Stadium and School of Health Technology,” Sir Joe Amene said.
