The Executive Chairman,Edo State Sports Commission Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele has expressed joy over the 5-0 victory of Edo Queens against Abia Angels in the Nigeria Woman Football League Premiership, describing the Queens’ performance as superlative.
The Edo Sports Commission boss said that Edo Queens 5+0 thumbing of Abia Angels in the Curtain raiser game in Benin was a good way to start the season, adding that the overwhelming victory of his girls is a sign of good things for Edo Queens in the 2024/25 season.
Hon. Enabulele was speaking after the game at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium in Benin, saying that the team has made him proud.
“I am super happy that our girls won this first game. I’m really excited. The deputy governor is here even the former deputy governor is also here and I am happy the girls delivered.
The girls have proved that they are real defending champions. They have made us proud. I pray we continue like this for the rest of the season.”
“On our part as a government, we are prepared to give the girls the necessary backing to ensure they have a successful league season. Like I said before, our mandate is to provide a conducive environment for Edo athletes to excel.
Edo Queens have done us proud, the State government will also give them massive support in their quest to win the NWFL premiership title for the second time.They have started well, I know we will also end well.” He said.
Edo Queens head coach, Moses Aduku, in a post match interview heaped praise on the players on their 5-0 home win over visitors, Abia Angels.
Aduku however admitted that his team is still work in progress in spite of the overwhelming victory , noting that a lot has happened since after CAF engagement.
He said the Nigerian Women’s Football league (NW) season just started and that the his team will not be carried away by the outcome of the opener, on Wednesday, at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City.
” Well, I think it is just the first game, but not that Abia Angels are a pushover team.
it was a good game against a good side, even as we won with a big margin. ”
We will continue working hard as we prepare for our Matchday 2 clash against Heartland Queens next Wednesday.” He said.
Usani Miracle opened scoring for Edo Queens in the 29th minute of play after the strong resistance of the visitors collapseed.Goal poacher Emem Essien, doubled the lead, making it 2-0 in the 38th minute before the half time break.
Three minutes into the second half, Goodness Osigwu, converted a penalty to make it 3-0. Former Bayelsa Queens forward Edeh Loveth, registered her first goal for her new club in the 57th minute by converting a corner kick into the net bringing the score line to 4-0.
Kafayat Mafisere wrapped up the game for the reigning league champions in the 78th minute.
