Edo Queens Football Club of Benin yesterday evening at the Pantami Stadium Gombe State, started the NWFL 2021/22 new premiership season campaign on a scintillating victory note with 2 nil win over the host team Adamawa Queens FC of Yola in a highly contested game played under hot weather.
The coach Mathew Wemimo- led side showed their superiority and over the host team as they kept on rampaging and terrorising the opponents defense from the blast of the whistle to the end of the 90 minutes game.
The much awaited opening goal of the match came in 19th minute when the new sign Chioma Oliseh, who is making her first league appearance for Edo Queens converted a corner kick into the net given the Godwin Obaseki girls a lead.
The second half of the encounter saw football flowing from all angles of the pitch with 87% pressure on Adamawa Queens who played only three corner kicks through the game.
The pressure put on Adamawa Queens by the vising Edo Queens yielded result when the prolific striker Essien Emem made it two at the time of 59th minute. It was a harsh defeat for Adamawa Queens.
As if two un replied goals was not enough, Edo Queens kept pushing harder but to avoid conceding more goals, the host went back to defensive game.
Edo Queens would have scored up to 5 goals if they hard converted all their scorable chances.
However, it is commendable and a mark of good beginning for Benin based Queens. The most important thing is that they have started very well. In Nigeria football, experience has showned that it is not easy for a vising team to get away win, so Edo Queens and Bayelsa Queens should be commended for getting an away victory.
This is just the first game of the league, now that coaches have observed some flaws in their teams, they will go back to the drawing board, take a critical look at the matches and know the area to work on.
In week two, Edo Queens will host the new league comers Naija Ratels fc of Abuja at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium Benin City next week Wednesday. It believed that Edo Queens will the candlelight on as the league continues next week in all designated centres across the country.
