The board of the Nigeria Women Football League, has disowned a locally organized pre-season tournament called WAFA Pre-season 2020 for fraudulently and unlawfully using the league board title without authorization.
The NWFL Chief Operating Officer, Dr. Ayo Abdulrahman, said in a statement in Abuja that: “It was morally wrong for a football organization not known to the secretariat of the NWFL, to use its title without seeking the requisite approval to do so.
He said: “Our attention has been drawn to a widely circulated notice of a pre season women football programme with the caption “NWFL/WAFA Pre-Season 2020.”
“The Nigeria Women Football League wishes to inform the general public that for the purpose of clarification, WAFA organization is not known to the NWFL, the women Football regulator or to the Nigeria Football Authority.
“Secondly your publication and advertisement of the NWFL on the above without due consultation is also considered as affront, deceitful, embarrassing and meant to misinform the general public.
“We therefore, demand an immediate written and convincing rational behind this fraudulent act and remove NWFL from all advert forthwith.
“For your information, NWFL is the only subsidiary of the Nigeria Football Federation saddled with the responsibility to organize the three tiers of women football league in Nigeria.
