Although he admitted that his team have been troubled with ill luck and some other issues that are affecting them at the NWFL Championship play-offs in Calabar, Coach Tobi stressed that the match official compounded their woes.
The youthful gaffer, whose side are in their maiden outing at this level, further said in a chat with sports247.ng that he will not scold his players for the heavy defeat, considering that they gave their best.
Coach Tobi declared, “The truth is, we did not deserve to lose this game. I must be frank, but we lost because of the centre referee.
“We conceded an own goal, and that affected us, but I will say everyone should be fair in whatever they are doing.
“For instance, in one of the three goals they scored, our centre back was hit deliberately, and the ref saw it, but he waved play on. Seeing the girl was kicked from behind, then you still waved play on?”
He then called for fair officiating and a level playing ground for all competing teams in order to encourage good football on the pitch and make the fans happy.
“It is quite unfortunate to see things like this happening. It was a one-sided game, and everyone who watched it knows it. Fine.
“We might be unlucky, but the officials should not complicate our worries too. We played well and, to me, we won the game.
“The girls did well; they did excellently well. We were a bit unlucky, but the officials, too, contributed their own quota to our loss.
“That’s what I can say about this match,” the highly emotional coach reasoned in a shaking voice.
Coach Tobi then turned his attention towards his side’s next game, ahead of which he assured that he will check all their flaws and come out with a winning strategy.
“Definitely, each game comes with a different approach. We are not going to play against Ibom again so, definitely, we must have a different approach.
“We will review this game and the first one as well. We’ll try as much as possible to work on our weaknesses.
“We also have to build on our strength, too, and we have to convert our chances so that we won’t be wasteful in front of goal.
“We’ll work on those angles and, hopefully, we should get the maximum three points in our next game,” Coach Tobi enthused.
