Kaduna Queens FC are not mourning their defeat in the ongoing Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Championship play-offs, as the club’s coach says their priority is getting Invitations to the various national teams.
As 2-0 loss to local rivals, Gallant Queens of Kaduna appeared to soil their promotion ambition, but the club’s coach downplayed the setback and spoke about other targets in his sight.
The gaffer fondly called Coach Elinus, however, told sports247.ng after the defeat that fatigue from a torrid road trip accounted for the loss, despite his players’ spirited efforts.
“Kaduna Queens tried a lot, but fatigue affected us,” Coach Elinus began.
“We had been on the road for three days due to technical problems with the vehicle.
“We just walked into the venue, and the players were even taking some bread inside the field of play before kick-off.
“Despite all odds, the girls showed that they are capable and they were able to do fine. They are determined to represent Kaduna State very beautifully.”
The amiable tactician then literally ruled his side out of contention for promotion, as he spoke about what he wants to achieve from the ongoing competition in Calabar.
“The target is to show the full value of Kaduna State. We want to display beautiful football and play a wonderful game; so that some of them can find themselves in Europe or the national teams.
“I want to groom them from the basics into the professional side of football.
“That means I have to take them through the stages to the under-17, under-20 and senior teams … that is Flamingoes, Falconets and Super Falcons.
“That’s my top priority,” Elinus stressed in a jocular tone, while assuring that his wards will still give their best effort in each match they play.
