NWFL: Ajakaye, Mariam Make History with Hat-tricks as Robo Queens Thrash Benue Queens in Lagos

Ajakaye Opeyemi scored the first hat-trick of her NWFL Premiership career as Robo Queens dismantled Benue Queens 8-1 in Lagos.

The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Matchday 9 fixture took place on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at the Legacy Pitch in Lagos.

Ajakaye Opeyemi found the net in the 22nd, 55th, and 82nd minutes, beyond the three goals she also contributed two assists as the Lagos Queens ran riot.

Yahaya Mariam also registered her first NWFL Premiership career hat-trick, scoring in the 51st, 80h, and 90th minutes despite coming from the bench to replace Nkwocha Favour.

Kemi Adegbuyi scored a brace, striking in the 7th and 74th minutes, while she was a dynamite too hot to handle for the visitors on the right side of Robo Queens attack.

Benue Queens managed to get on the scoresheet through Saawua Comfort who scored their lone goal in the 89th minute.

This emphatic victory ended Robo Queens’ three-game losing streak and moved up on the league table as they continue to a top 3 finish in the group which guarantees a place in the Super Six, the end of the season play off which determine the winner of the league.

Meanwhile, Benue Queens, in their debut season, remain bottom of the table in the after suffering their ninth consecutive defeat.

A tough learning curve for the Benue based team as they continue to find their feet in the league, having conceded 25 goals in nine games and scored just four goals all season.
