Kemi Adegbuyi, who was named best player of the previous week’s pool of matches in the opening fixtures of this season’s Nigerian Women Football League (NWFL), admitted that the clash with Adamawa Queens proved to be tougher than expected.

She further confessed in an interview with sports247.ng that she was personally under pressure in the encounter, as the opponents were all out to stop her from proving that she deserved the best player of the week award, but Adegbuyi denied any regrets for her achievement.

She said, “I’m happy winning this award. It wasn’t easy winning the award, and this match was also difficult, but I give God the glory. I missed a lot of chances, but I still got an assist.

They did not give me chances to play my game, but I still tried to put in my best. They were not giving me chances on the right, so I had to switch to the left and find space for myself to play.”

She then threw more light on her assist that led to Robo’s winning goal in the 90th minute and pointed out that, though she could have gone for personal glory with a goal, she gave a pass instead when she noticed her teammate was in a better position to score.

“When I got the chance, the first thing that came to my head was to pass the ball. That was the best option, because my player was already there to receive the ball. So, I just had to pass.

“At the beginning, we were not really playing fine, but towards the ending of the first half, we picked up. We lost a bit of chances, but we eventually won; and our first target still remains to qualify for the Super-6,” Adegbuyi affirmed.
