Ibom Angels of Uyo coach, Edwin Okon has faulted his players’ performance in their fourth match of the Nigeria Women Football League (NPFL), as he confessed they did not play well enough to get the day’s victory.
Sports247.ng reports that the former Super Falcons’ head coach described it as his team’s worst match of the current NWFL season, but expressed optimism that they will soon bounce back, as he noted that his players eventually settled down and they then played better.

Edwin Okon added, “I think the children are calming down to deliver what the system wants. They, however, have to step up their level of football.
“This is not national league. It’s not championship; it’s premiership, but a lot of the players that I have are not yet up to the standard we want.”
He then thanked God for making the victory possible and reckoned that it would make them perform better in their next fixture of the NPFL.
He declared, “I thank God for us getting three points at home. This one has come and gone. So, we look towards our next match. We will continue moving like this until the children stabilise.
“It’s not easy. Female football is not like that of the boys. But, before the next match, we will work on how they can improve and do better. They played below standard in this match, and this is one of our worst performances.
“No two matches can be the same. So, we have to improve. Football fans in Uyo will appreciate any good team, not only the home team. They love coming out to cheer the team, and I’m happy with the fans. I want them to continue coming out to support us, and the team will not let them down,” Okon assured.
