It was an upset for Edo Queens Football Club of Benin today at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium as they suffered a 1-0 defeat in the hands of bottom placed Abia Angels in the week six game of the Nigeria women Football league premiership.
Marryan Ohadiwe scored the only goal of the match in the 56th minute after finding the back of the net in a goalmouth scramble.
The host team could not find answer to the visitors’ watertight defence network as Moses Aduku’s substitutes failed to add the desired bite in a bid to cancel the puzzle posed by their former player Marryn Ohadiwe.
Edo Queens FC still lead Group B despite the upset but dropped three points and now lead with 12 points,two points above second placed Abia Angels who now have 10 points to go on midseason break.
Edo Queens in week five encounter, defeated Ibom Angels 2-0 in Uyo to record second away win of the season and moved five points clear at the top of Group B in the Nigeria Women Football League NWFL premiership.
Edo Queens have 12 points from six games and would have been eight points if the had defeated Abia Angels who have now moved up to 10 points from 7 points before their visit to Benin.
In a post match interview,the head coach of Edo Queens FC Moses Aduku said he was upset by the home defeat but admitted that in football,one is bound to win some and lose some. He added that no coach like to lose at home but it happens in football.
On the other hand,the head coach of the visiting Abia Angels Ann Chiejine who was visibly happy,expressed joy that her girls delivered when she needed them to fight for good result.
” I am happy we won against a very good team to take away three points from Benin. I have taken my time to study Edo Queens and I instructed my players on how to curtail them and be smart when the opportunity comes. And when we got the chance,we took it well. I thank God for the victory. “,She said.
