Delta Queens FC returned to winning ways with a 3-0 thrashing of visiting side Osun Babes of Osogbo at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba to maintain her unbeaten streak in the Nigerian Women Football League, Premiership, this season.
The Okowa Babes who have been enjoying an unbeaten streak that has now extended to 12 since the beginning of the 2022/2023 NWFL Premiership season, produced another breathtaking performance against the visitors who they had defeated 2nil in the reversed fixture in the first round of the league.
The first half of play saw the hosts pile up pressure on Osun Babes from the onset as it took just seven minutes of play for Chinaza Agoh to fire her team in front and take her goals tally for the season to seven to remain part of the top scorers in the NWFL for the season.
All efforts to increase the goal tally were not converted and the first half ended 1-0 in favour of the run away Group A table toppers.
The second half resumed with Coach Tosan Blankson tutored Delta Queens bossing the game as it took ten minutes of resumed play for the referee to point to the penalty box after an Osun Babes player was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the Penalty box.
Mercy Omokwo stepped up and sent Osun Babes goalkeeper the wrong direction to it 2-0 and registered her first goal for the day.
Omokwo almost scored a brace after she beat her marker but her effort missed the target by a whisker and there was no player to guide the ball inside the goal.
Through a classic Assist from under 17 international, Taiwo Afolabi, Mercy Omokwo completed her brace for the day to make the soore line 3-0 as she lobbed the ball to beat Osun Babes goalkeeper who had left her goal post, and it ended 3-0
against Osun Babes who are battling to avoid relegation and were no where, a match to the hosts who have already booked a place in the Super Six with 8 wins and 4 draws from 12 games.
Meanwhile Delta Queens coach, Coach Tosan Blankson in a post-match interview with the team’s media praised his players for an outstanding performance.
He said the target of the team was not only to qualify for the Super Six as that would be a waste of energy having remained unbeaten , but to also win the title and prepare for CAF Women’s continental.
For her part, the Chief Executive Officer Delta Queens, Henrrientta Ehiabor, said the team is focused on its target this season which she noted is to win the NWFL title.
The C.E.O, Henrrientta stressed that the club have quality players who can break into the national teams and urged the players not to relax on their oars.
The Duo thanked the chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, Chief Tonobok Okowa for his support both on and off the pitch to the team and assured that they will not disappoint him with the final Target
Delta Queens leads Group A with 24 points.
