Bayelsa Queens FC of Yenagoa has climbed to the top of the Nigeria Women Football League after pipping hard fighting Robo Queens FC from Lagos one nil in a delayed match-day three of the 2020/21 season at the Samson Siasia stadium.
The Gloryland Girls as Bayelsa Queens are fondly called created many scoring opportunities in the first half but poor marksmanship was their bane as the half ended scoreless.
On resumption of the second stanza, the Coach Moses Aduku tutored side increased the tempo of the game when substitute Charity Rueben lashed into a loose ball to slot home the only goal on 56 minutes.
The goal galvanized the home team into creating more chances but the woodwork came to the rescue of the Lagos side.
Proprietor and Coach of FC Robo Emmanuel Osahon Orobosan said that his girls really were not at their best but conceded the fact that they lost to a better team but promised to work on the lapses observed.
On his part, Coach Moses Aduku stated that the most important thing was getting the three-point against a good team like FC Robo and that his team is still a work in progress.
Goalscorer Charity Rueben was delighted that her strike gave Bayelsa Queens the much needed three-point and looking forward to scoring more goals this season.
Bayelsa Queens have maximum nine points from three matches and will next take on Confluence Queens of Lokoja after the league resumes from the festivities break.
