Ahead of the start to the Nigerian Women Football League new season, the head coach of Osun state football club side, Osun Babes, Coach Yekini Rauf has said that his team are battle for the season.
The head coach who made the disclosure in an interview with sports247 today at the Osogbo township stadium after the team’s training said the team is fully prepared and battle ready ahead of the new season.
‘Yes, the girls are battle ready, we are fully prepared, errm, we are under dogs but I know my team will surprise this season’
On what the target is for the team this season, coach Yekini noted that the team’s target is to finish in a respectable position at the end of the season.
‘Yes, our target for this season is to earn a respectable position in the league, and in the Aiteo cup too, we want to make some mark. We want the team to be a force to be reckoned with this season’.
On goal scoring which almost caused the team to be relegated last season, the coach said the team will not have problems with goal scoring.
‘You can see the team is a work in progress, our striker that was with the flamingoes, Yemisi Samuel; she was the highest goal scorer there, she has proven herself with the national team and she is back to team, all three players at u-17 national team level are back to the team and have given the camp a boost, we will not have problems with goal scoring’.
Osun babes are in a tight group alongside Adamawa Queens, Delta Queens, Royal Queens, Heartland Queens, Robo Queens, Ibom Angels and Rivers Angels but the coach said they will pull surprises.
‘Yes, you are very correct, the group is a difficult one, we have the league champions, the Aiteo cup champions, yes we will respect every team in our group but any team that underrates us will be caught by surprise’.
The Omoluabi Queens will kick start the season’s campaign on Wednesday when they face Adamawa Queen at the Osogbo Township stadium by 4pm.
