WESPAC World No. 4 Enoch Nwali has claimed a top-place finish at the Pyramid Club Monthly Scrabble Tournament Retreat held in Lagos over the weekend.
The highly-rated rising star in the scrabble firmament left no one in doubt of his prowess as he fended off challenges from rivals to climb onto the top of the standings after 10 rounds despite the gloomy weather which heralded the tournament on Saturday.
“The Drummer boy’ as he is fondly called, rack up a total of eight wins and two defeats with a cumulative spread of 662 points to skip away from the snapping duo of second-placed Timi Olaitan and third-placed Saheed Jimoh who were close on his heels with same wins and defeats but they fell short with lower cumulative.
He had earlier won the May edition of the retreat.
In one of the highlights of the monthly meet, Akinfemisoye Ayomipo recorded the highest spread of 262 after he mauled Gabriel Chiamaka with a 629 to 367 score in round 4.
Chairman of the Lagos State Scrabble and Monopoly Association (LASSMA) Engr. Dipo Akanbi who presented a trophy and the top cash prize donated by the body to the winners commended the level of competition at the one-day event.
He said the monthly retreat fitted well into the plan of his administration and by extension the focus of the Lagos State Sports Commission to expand the popularity of the mind game as well as to keep players busy competitively in the state.
Akanbi restated the commitment of his board to keep supporting competitions at the various scrabble clubs with trophies and cash, a gesture which was earlier extended to the Surulere and Pyramid clubs.
After the jamming session, members of the scrabble community honored the Secretary of the Pyramid Club Bukunmi Afolayan on the occasion of her birthday.
