Trabzonspor of Turkey striker, Anthony Nwankaeme is awaiting ‘a word’ from Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, as the all-action attacker believes his current form is deserving a recall to the Nigerian national team.
Nwakaeme has not been called up since enduring a torrid outing in the last World Cup qualifier against Algeria, and is again left out of the latest squad list to battle Seychelles and Egypt.
However, sports247.ng reports that the list was released barely 24 hours before the former Voejle Football Academy of Lagos and Hapoel Be’er Sheva of Israel striker hit a brace of goals for Trabzonspor.
Despite a run of poor form while settling down in the city of Trabzon, Nwaekeme struck twice for Trabzonspor in a 2-2 draw with Kasimpasa on Monday.
The 29-year-old was the star attraction nin the Turkish Super Lig game at Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Stadium, İstanbul, where he scored the first goal in the 30th minute and doubled the lead in the 45th.
Although Kasimpasa roared back to force a draw, Nwakaeme now has six goals in 17 league matches for Trabzonspor this season, and the fiery striker believes he has made a point to Rohr that he deserves a recall.
Writing under the Twitter handle Efsane Spor @efsanespors, Nwakaeme stated in Turkish: “Tek kelime ile anlatır mısın?” (which translates to mean ‘Can you tell me one word?’).
