Joy Nwaiwu and Onunwa Nmesoma are among the players set for today’s semifinals of the on-going Second Marvico Open Badminton Championship holding in Obazu Mbieri, in Mbaitoli Local Government Area, Imo State.
The semifinals will hold at the Obazu badminton courts with Nwaiwu, who defeated Rachael Onyegbule 2-0 (11-3, 11-5) in the quarterfinals, and Nmesoma, who outclassed Peculiar Chieke 11-5, 11-8, battling for the finals tickets in the women’s category.
Also through to today’s semi-finals are Happiness Onyegbule and Favour Chieke, who beat Amarachi Nwaneri 11-4, 11-8 victory, and Gift Anumadu 11-9, 11-6 respectively.
In the women’s doubles semi-finals are Joy Nwaiwu, who paired with Favour Chieke to dismiss the duo of Rachael Onyegbule and Onunwa Nmesoma, Gift Anumadu/Anusiem Onyinyechi, Amarachi Nwaneri/Peculiar Chieke and the pair of Nmesoma Onuiwu and Onyegbule.
Playing in the men’s semifinals are Uche Anusiem, Onozie Chukwuebuka, Ezekwe and Gift Achimike, as well as Obinba Chigozie, Paul Oneji, Nwandikem Chimezie, and Ifeanyi Nwaiwu.
Meanwhile, Chief Nnamdi Iroegbu, the CEO of Marvico Group has reaffirmed his promise to reward the winners as well as console losers at the end of the month-long exercise in line with the spirit of the game.
