NSF Delta 2022 : Deaf Athletes Produce Gold For Team Edo As Team Shines In Kokowa, Badminton, Eyes Gold In Beach Volleyball Others

The duo of Assurance Omoria and Nathaniel Okpaise gave their all in the 200m female and male Deaf athletics to bring golden honours to their father’s land, Edo as team Edo continues to harvest more medals in the 21st National Sports Festival holding in Asaba,Delta state.

Edo also performed well in traditional sports,beating Katsina,Bayelsa and Akwa Ibom to get Gold in (kokuwa) 100kg .

They were also impressive in Badminton with the
Female team winning Gold ahead of Ogun,Lagos and Kwara.

Maris Ighalo demonstrated her commitment in Dart as she narrowly lost the final battle to her opponents from Team Delta in the 300 women’s singles 2-1 to take home Silver, the Team in total clinched 3 silver and 2 bronze on the day while Esohe Idah gave her Deltan opponent no room for upset as he was all over him from the start of their fight to clinch gold in the men’s 75kg Sanzhou.

Team Edo were extraordinary in the women cricket as they lorded over other states after being inspired by the youngest centurion in West Africa, Lucky Piety to pick gold in two finals – women’s ODI and T20 respectively.

Team Edo continued to grab medals on the day with another silver in the men’s Squash after the duo of Seyi Abel and Femi Shedara narrowly lost to Team Delta in the final. The Team also picked up a bronze in the Mixed doubles by Femi Shedara and Dunni Kikiola to close the day with 1silver and 3 bronze medals.

Team Edo went on to pick Bronze in the women’s 4X100m freestyle to end the day with 4 bronze in the aquatic events.

Aminu Shagari stood out in the Traditional ( Kokowa) sport by beating his opponents to take home the gold for team Edo

The gold-digging continued with another 2 gold medals in the 200m Deaf Athletics by Assurance Omoria, a silver in the women’s 200m through Deborah Ighawuanre, and another gold by Nathaniel Okpaise in the men’s 200m – Sweet Harvest!

The Athletics family continued to enjoy Golden moments with another gold medal in the men’s 1,500m by Sambo Hamid.

Back on the wrestling mat, Bright Ironekhian claimed one gold, and one bronze went the way of Amaosa Okoh.

The badminton team added their names on the golden book of the festival with the quartet of Ruth Ebere, Deborah Ihensekhian, Rahama Ibrahim, and Promise James winning gold in the women’s badminton event,beating Team Ogun, Lagos, and Kwara who shared the silver and bronze respectively.

The Kayak Team did not go home empty handed as they managed to take home 1 silver and 3 bronze in the canoe sports event.

Meanwhile,team Edo l has booked a place in the finals of Beach Volleybal after defeating Team Lagos 2-0.

They are fixed to face Team Kaduna In the final match on Friday. Kaduna pipped Team Delta 2-1 to reach the final.

The Final match is scheduled for Friday,at 8 am at the Westend Secondary School, opposite St’ Patrick College with high hope of harvesting more gold.
