Speaking at the championship, Hon. Olopade expressed deep admiration for the growth of wheelchair basketball in Nigeria, acknowledging the efforts of the federation, private sector partners, and government stakeholders.
“I fell in love with this sport 15 years ago and I am here to give my full support,” Olopade stated. “I’ve been very impressed with what I’ve seen. This shows the sport is growing, and Seyi Johnson along with the federation board members are doing an amazing job. This event is crucial as it will help select Nigeria’s representatives for the Agadir tournament in two months.”
Olopade noted the increased participation and rising competitiveness among state teams, highlighting the emergence of new contenders beyond the traditional powerhouses like Lagos, Oyo, and Delta.
He also stressed the importance of inclusivity, aligning the championship with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda. “These determined individuals are a key part of our RHINSE initiative — ensuring that everyone has a space in national sports development,” he said.
Commending the transformation of the Alake Sports Centre, he praised Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, for his unwavering commitment to sports. “This facility’s rapid upgrade reflects a serious dedication to advancing sports, and the governor’s presence underscores Ogun’s readiness to host a world-class National Sports Festival.”
Hon. Olopade concluded by applauding BetKing’s sustained support for wheelchair basketball. “BetKing has been a consistent pillar of support for five years, and their contribution cannot be overstated.”
The championship runs from April 3 to 7, 2025, with scouts and national team selectors watching closely for the best talents to represent Nigeria internationally.
