The National Sports Commission (NSC) has expressed strong disapproval of a misleading headline circulating in some online media outlets, which claims that “The EFCC probes National Sports Commission over alleged misappropriation of funds.”
According to the Commission, this headline is a gross distortion of facts and a clear attempt at sensationalism.

The leadership of the NSC, under Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko and Director General Honourable Bukola Olopade, described the publication as unprofessional and damaging to the reputation of the newly established body.
“The body of the story provided no evidence or explanation to support the headline’s claim that the NSC is under investigation. It is clear this was a deliberate attempt to malign our organization,” said a spokesperson for the NSC.
Setting the record straight, the Commission clarified that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) merely requested documents related to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). As the apex governing body for sports in Nigeria, the NSC oversees all federations, including the NFF, making the document request a procedural matter, not an investigation of the NSC itself.
Shehu Dikko and Bukola Olopade, recognized for their expertise in sports branding and marketing, emphasized the importance of fostering a positive relationship with the media. “We value the role of the media in the sports ecosystem but will not condone attempts to tarnish the NSC’s image,” the statement read.
The NSC appealed to journalists to uphold ethical standards in their reporting, underscoring the collective goal of building a sustainable and vibrant sports economy.
