Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Shehu Dikko, has reiterated the Commission’s commitment to supporting the FIFA Forward Project 3.0, emphasizing its significance in advancing Nigerian football.

Speaking during an inspection visit to the proposed project site at the FIFA Goal Project/NFF Headquarters inside the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, Dikko, accompanied by Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Ibrahim Musa Gusau, and his team, evaluated various aspects of the location to ensure the project meets its intended objectives.
Dikko expressed deep personal attachment to the initiative, recalling his role as FIFA Goal Project Manager for Nigeria in 2003, when the first phase of the project was conceptualized, the land secured, and the initial buildings completed in 2005.
“That facility has been a bedrock of football development in Nigeria for decades,” he noted. “It is quite exciting to see the NFF under the leadership of Ibrahim Gusau advancing the next phase of this project at a time when we are focused on deliberate reforms in Nigerian sports.”
The FIFA Forward Project 3.0 comprises a modern NFF Hotel and new training pitches, designed to provide world-class accommodation and training facilities for Nigeria’s national teams. Beyond enhancing team preparations, Dikko highlighted the project’s potential to reduce the huge accommodation costs incurred by the NFF and generate revenue by serving as an international training site for visiting national teams.
“This project aligns perfectly with the vision and objectives of the NSC,” Dikko affirmed. “The Commission is fully committed to supporting the NFF and FIFA to ensure its successful execution and full utilization. We recognize its potential not only for Nigerian football but also for positioning our facilities on a global scale.”
Dikko further linked the initiative to the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, stating that the NSC remains dedicated to fostering sustainable sports infrastructure and development across the country.
With preparations underway for the formal unveiling of the FIFA Forward Project 3.0 later this month, the NSC Chairman’s visit underscores the government’s determination to create a lasting impact on Nigerian football through strategic investments in infrastructure.
