Dikko gave this assurance while receiving YSFON’s National President, Alhaji Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, at his office. He commended the Federation’s longstanding contributions to talent discovery in Nigeria, acknowledging its pivotal role in nurturing young athletes, including those who won Nigeria’s first Junior World Cup.
“YSFON is the country’s oldest grassroots sports federation, and its impact on youth sports development is undeniable. The NSC is committed to supporting its initiatives to further enhance sports at the grassroots,” Dikko stated.
In response, Dr. Gawuna congratulated Dikko on his appointment, expressing confidence in his ability to advance Nigerian sports. He also praised President Bola Tinubu’s decision to appoint Dikko as NSC Chairman and Bukola Olopade as Director General, believing their leadership will help reposition the sector.
Additionally, during a meeting with the Honourable Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, Gawuna emphasized the critical role of youth in national development. He expressed appreciation for the Ministry’s initiatives aimed at youth empowerment and self-reliance.
Olawande, in turn, affirmed the Ministry’s commitment to collaborating with relevant organizations, including YSFON, in line with the government’s ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ to ensure Nigerian youths are actively engaged and empowered.
