The Chairman of the NSC, Mallam Shehu Dikko, has pledged full support—both moral and logistical—for the prestigious tournament organized by Abuja All Stars International.
During a courtesy visit by top executives of the club and members of the Local Organising Committee to his office on Monday, Mallam Dikko expressed deep admiration for the vision behind the tournament. The visit served as an opportunity to congratulate him on his recent appointment and to update him on preparations for the upcoming event.
Mallam Dikko warmly welcomed the delegation, stating, “There’s no need for long protocols to reach me—I’m one of you. This tournament does more than celebrate retired players; it creates a supportive community that addresses emotional, financial, and psychological challenges faced by veterans. That’s something truly powerful.”
He went on to affirm the Commission’s commitment to the event, announcing that the NSC would be providing both financial assistance and logistical support to ensure its success. “I might not have kept up with my personal training,” he joked, “but I’ll definitely find time to join you on the pitch. And please know the NSC doors are always open for forward-thinking sports initiatives, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.”
Speaking on behalf of Abuja All Stars International, President Mr. Nasiru Jibril thanked Mallam Dikko for the warm reception. He emphasized the importance of the tournament—now in its fifth edition—which is expected to feature over 600 veteran players. “It was vital for us to share our vision with the number one sportsman in the country. Given his passion for the game, we believe he might even lace up his boots,” Jibril noted.
The club’s patron, Mr. Nduka Ajaibe, also praised the Chairman’s approach, saying, “When the right person is in the right position, it shows. What we’re seeing in Nigerian sports today is a reflection of that leadership.”
Slated to kick off in a few weeks, the Abuja All Stars International Invitational Veterans Tournament is more than just a football showcase—it’s a celebration of legacy, unity, and the timeless spirit of the beautiful game. With strong backing from the NSC and other key partners, this year’s edition is shaping up to be the most impactful yet.
