NSC Chairman, Plateau Governor Forge Strategic Partnership To Boost Sports Development

Abuja – The Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Shehu Dikko, welcomed Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, to the NSC Secretariat in Abuja today.

The meeting provided an opportunity for both leaders to discuss a strategic roadmap aimed at advancing shared interests in sports development.

Following their deliberations, both parties agreed to establish a joint-working committee tasked with implementing the objectives outlined in their discussions.

Among the key issues addressed were the Plateau State Government’s plan to complete the New Jos Township Stadium, a project the Mutfwang administration is committed to delivering. Additionally, the NSC plans to reactivate the Commission’s Training Center in Plateau, leveraging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive for greater collaboration with the state.

Governor Mutfwang commended President Tinubu for restoring the National Sports Commission and appointing Mallam Dikko as its Chairman. He expressed confidence in Dikko’s leadership and vision for Nigerian sports.

“I have been following closely everything said about this appointment. This is about the first time in sports that everyone is saying the right person was picked. We must thank Mr. President for getting this spot-on. Monitoring developments in sports since then, there is no doubt that the sector is heading upwards. I am so sure that this collaboration will yield desired results because of the man in charge of sports in the country,” said Governor Mutfwang.

Mallam Dikko, in turn, lauded Governor Mutfwang’s commitment to sports and highlighted the potential for Plateau State to play a pivotal role in the nation’s athletic success.

“It is interesting to note the vast knowledge His Excellency has about sports and his commitment to drive its growth in Plateau state. Where there is a will, there will surely be a way. Plateau is a place of interest to us. For instance, we have to start looking at why we don’t do well in long-distance races like the Kenyans or Ethiopians. If we have to change that trend, we have to factor in places like Plateau and its weather to groom such athletes as well as the facilities we have available. There is a lot that both parties can do together, and when the joint-working committee is set up, we will pick it up from there,” said Dikko.

The collaboration between the NSC and Plateau State promises to advance sports infrastructure and athlete development, positioning Plateau as a hub for excellence in Nigerian sports.
