The Nigeria Football Referees’s Association, NRA headed by FIFA retired referee in Hon. Alhaji Sani Zubairu has condemned the abuse on the trio of it’s members in the regular season of Nigeria National League as he questions level of security for it’s members.
It will be notable to recall that Charwal Wilfred, Asoluku Ihuoma and Uhuegbu Femi were assaulted in the Nigeria National League Southern Conference Group B4 match between Edel and Brillars FC at Awka City Stadium, Anambra State on June 20, 2023.
The NRA condemned this dehumanizing acts as they question the level of protection thier members get as they also await the decision of the League organizers for the perpetrators of such inhumane act in an official press release.
It is believed that the perpetrators lacked peripheral knowledge of laws governing the game of football is not in doubt but the attack on match officials in a game that had not lasted up to five minutes could be interpreted as premeditated.
The NRA strongly condemns the incident and questions the level of security arrangement for the match.
No reasonable leadership will allow its members to be so treated and the matter swept under the carpet.
The leadership of NRA awaits the decision and action from the Nigeria National League (NNL), the organizers of the League, which will form part of evidence for any action against the perpetrators of the dastardly act.
