The Nigeria (Football) Referees Association NRA, is in a very mournful mood following the unexpected demise of a member and premier league Referee of the Abia State Referees Council, Dr Kingsley Nnaemeka Eneogwe.
Dr Eneogwe, died in a fatal motor accident yesterday on his way back to Abia State base from Kaduna through the Lokoja-Enugu road as part of officiating crew who handled one of the Nigeria Premier league matches on Wednesday. He was the Assistant Referee 1 of the Week 5 match; Nassarawa Utd vs Plateau Utd.
A medical doctor by profession. After passing out from Federal Government College, Ohafia, he went to Abia State University where he read Medicine and Surgery and practiced as a Medical Doctor until death came calling.
Dr Eneogwe whose mother, a teacher and also a Referee obtained Grade One in 2022 and went through the levels of national matches from Nationwide to National League Matches later gained promotion to Premier League about four years ago. He was once invited for Fifa Listing exercise by the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF Referees Committee in Abuja.
Dr Eneogwe since promotion to Premier League cadre handled top flight matches in the domestic league.
Shocked by the untimely death, the President of the NRA, Otunba Tade Azeez has sent words of condolences to the bereaved family, his society and Abia State Football Referee Council adding that Dr Eneogwe’s sudden death has again opened a fresh session of tears for arbiters in Nigeria as he was one of the best the association was proud of and paraded for matches.
Otunba Tade Azeez described the late Dr Eneogwe as one of the very humble and reliable young referee the association counted on in terms of service delivery on the field of play.
The NRA President while enjoining the family of the bereaved, his referees society and council including those he left behind to take heart in the fact that he lived a good life before meeting his creator, asked Almighty God to give his soul eternal rest.
