Bendel Insurance Football Club of Benin has continued to maintain its unbeaten run in the 2023 Nigeria Premier Football League with an away 0-0 draw at Gombe Utd to keep Super Six in sight.
The Benin Arsenals started match day 16 at the Pantami Stadium, Gombe with confidence but courteously. They came close to scoring in each half with Imade Osarenkhoe and Divine Nwachukwu missing clear chances on two occasions. Divine Nwachukwu’s 44th-minute volley would have broken the deadlock for the visitors before the halftime whistle.
The home team also showed determination to end Insurance invincibility with some dangerous incursions as two shots on target from Mathias Samuel were well saved by the Insurance reliable goalie Amos Obasogie.
The second half of the match, however, came to a halt twice between the 75th and 80th minute of play as fans’ trouble forced the match officials to stop the game temporarily. Insurance Goalkeeper was forced to vacate his area as the angry fans continued to throw different objects into the pitch.
Recall that both sides also settled for a goalless draw in the first round of the league in Benin.
Insurance FC, notwithstanding, still maintain their leadership in Group A with 32 points and remained unbeaten after sixteen matches.
The Benin Arsenals will be going back to base with a point in the bag before they host their arch-rivals Shooting Stars of Ibadan in the week 17 engagement.
Meanwhile, Bendel Insurance FC has been paired against Ahudiya FC of Abia in the 2023 Federation Cup round of 32, scheduled to hold on Wednesday. They defeated ABS of Ilorin 1-0 in the round of 64 in Lagos, last week Wednesday.
