NPFL: Rangers Target Three Points Against Bayelsa In Rescheduled Matchday 3 Fixture

Rangers International of Enugu will be targeting the maximum three points at stake as the host Bayelsa United at the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium today, Thursday in the final rescheduled Matchday 3 fixtures of the Nigeria Premier Football League, Sports247 reports.

Rangers will put the pains of losing 1-2 away to Remo Stars last weekend and emulate Enyimba FC and Bendel Insurance who hosted and won their respective rescheduled Matchday 3 games against Akwa United and Shooting Stars by 1-0 respectively.

The match which is due for 4 pm later today is expected to be another grudge face off between coach Ladan Bosso and Fidelis Ilechukwu as both coaches desperately need the three points at stake.

Enugu Rangers need the three points to close gaps with Remo Stars and Rivers United at the top of the log to keep themselves in the title race having won just four points out of possible nine, presently seated on the number 13th position on the table.

Bayelsa United on the other side need the three points to get their season rolling after the team endured a tough start with two consecutive draws after opening day defeat as they looked to get their win of the season and get out of the relegation zone.

The Flying Antelopes
Captain of the side, Chinemerem Ugwueze, says Rangers won’t take anything for chance and won’t underrate their less fancied opponent as the maximum three points will make their supporters happy and also enhance their resolve to successfully defend the title they won last season.

“No team is a small team anymore. Bayelsa United is a respected side under a great coach but we have our work cut out for us.

It is the maximum point that we are targeting and I am optimistic that we shall get our acts together to make our supporters happy at the end of the encounter,” said the young skipper of Rangers.

Head to Head
In sixteen matches between both teams, Rangers have won five matches with the Yenagoa side winning four while seven matches have ended in draws with the Enugu side spanking their opponent 3-0 in their last encounter in May, 2024 after earlier suffering a 2-0 loss in Yenagoa in December,2023.
