The Kwara United Football Club Players have apologized to the state government, the management of the team, and Kwarans, after losing the Matchday 12 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) encounter to Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) today, at the Akure Township Stadium.
A last-gasp winner from Joshua Akpan in the 94 minute condemned the Harmony Boys to their second home defeat of the season. The Ibadan-based team had earlier lost a penalty through Sikiru Alimi, with few minutes to end the crucial encounter.
With the loss, Kwara United is now in the 8th position on the table with 12 points from 12 matches, ahead of their next match against Bendel Insurance of Benin.
The team’s Captain, Bamidele Aiyenugba, apologized to the government, the management, Supporters, Fans, and stakeholders for the loss.
“We had no choice but to apologize for losing this all-important match against Shooting Stars Sports Club, especially considering our position on the table.
“On behalf of the players, I will want to apologize to the state government and also pledge to make up for the lackadaisical display, which ended in our second home defeat of the season.
“We equally want to apologize to the management, led by our Chairman, Kumbi Titiloye. They have done more than enough in terms of welfare and motivation. We sincerely apologize and will henceforth return to winning ways.
Aiyenugba, therefore, charged the players to put the loss behind them and face subsequent challenges with sincerity of purpose, especially on the backdrop of the target set for the season.
Kwara United Football Club started the 2022/2023 Abridged NPFL season in Ibadan, following the ongoing re-grassing of the pitch of the Main Bowl of the Kwara State Stadium Complex, and moved to Akure, after the end of the first round.
