Rangers International head coach, Abdu Maikaba has bemoaned the fact that his team played outside of the home ground through out the just concluded NPFL season.
Rangers’ home ground is usually the Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium popularly called the Cathedral but the team had to play outside due to renovation works on going on the stadium.
Rangers started their season on the fly with a big win against Katsina United on match day 1 but could not replicate the form at the FC Ifeanyi Ubah stadium, Nnewi where they first borrowed as their home ground.
Upon completion of the Awka Township stadium, the Flying Antelopes moved there to complete the remainder of their home games on it.
Reassessing the season on his debut as the club’s gaffer, Abdu Maikaba pointed that it was not a disastrous one.
“I believe we have done well to finish fifth at the end of the season knowing that we played all the 38 games outside the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.”
Rangers were in contention for the last continental space on the league table for a long period of the season but were battling the likes of Enyimba, Kwara United and Remo Stars.
Maikaba’s me finally lost the battle to Remo Stars after a 2-2 draw with Shooting Stars at the Awka Township stadium.
Rangers did have Ossy Martins end as their highest goal scorer with 9 goals with striker, Christian Nnaji netting 7 times for the Flying Antelopes.
