The 2021/2022 NPFL season ended with lots of memories for everyone involved, the players, the journalists, and the fans.
No doubt we all know the champions are Rivers United whilst MFM finished rock bottom on the table.
Two of the most known Northern sides, Kano Pillars and Katsina United got relegated but did you know only three players scored a hattrick in the just-finished season.
Yea, only three players scored three goals in a match and here they are:
Akuneto Chijioke
The winger led Rivers United to the Champions with his 19 goals. He finished as the top scorer of the season hence bagging an individual award alongside the league title.
Chijioke was the first player to score a hattrick this season. He did that in Rivers United’s thrashing of Akwa United by 4-1 in Port Harcourt.
The former MFM and Heartland attacker really found his goal-scoring boots this season.
Victor Mbaoma
The now Algerian-based player became the second player to net a hattrick this past season.
Victor became the leader of Enyimba with a scoring spree that saw him score three times against Kwara United in Aba.
He ended the season with 16 goals, joint the second highest goal scorer of the season with Gombe United’s Yusuf AbdulAzeez.
Andy Okpe
The lanky Remo stars striker netted a total of 12 goals in his debut season in the NPFL.
He first netted against champions, Rivers United before following it up with braces against Katsina United and Sunshine Stars.
The tall striker was on a goal drought but rediscovered his goal-scoring boots on the last day of the season against Niger Tornadoes as Remo Stars defeated them 3-0.
Victor Mbaoma and Akuneto Chijioke and other players netted braces on different occasions but these three players remain the only players to return home the official match day ball.
A total of 779 goals were scored in the just concluded season with Dakkada’s Edidiong Ezekiel netting the last goal of the season against Sunshine Stars while Remo Stars’ Akanni Qudus became the first goal scorer of the season against MFM
