There was jubilation and celebrations in Lagos on Saturday as Ikorodu City FC defeated Bendle Insurance 3-0 to begin life coach Bright Ozegbagbe resigned from the club in style, Sports 247 reports.
The Oga Boys, who are making their debut appearance in the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL recorded their first ever victory in the league after strings of poor results which forced the resignation of coach Ozegbagbe.
Ozegbagbe resigned his appointment last weekend citing inconsiderable differences between him and the management after the lost 1-0 away to Plateau United in Jos, which makes it three losses on the bounce, two of which are back to back home losses to Rangers and Nasarawa United, 0-1 and 1-2 respectively managing just a point out of possible 15 points .
The dead end marks a new beginning between the coach and the club , as Ozegbagbe ” looks forward to new opportunities elsewhere preserving his mental health,” Ikorodu City moved on with Ozegbagbe’s assistants of Nurudeen Aweroro, Ali Kandil, Bello Adebayo, and Sherif Salami.
The quadruple started on a clean slate, needing to put a halt to the free fall and they did in style pulling out the chest nut of the fire by confirming Bendel Insurance to their heaviest defeat in the league since 2008.
Three second half goals from Rivio Ayemwenre , Kenneth Onwe and Toyeeb Ajeigbe in the 48th, 56th and 74th minute respectively made the difference, ensuring Ikorodu City will score two or more in a game and also leaving the rock bottom of the table for the first time ever.
Now they can now build on the positives as the struggle to survive the drop continues, their loyal fans and lovers of NPFL football in Lagos State can at least celebrate and jubilate the milestone in the club’s history.
