Having seen 36 games of the Nigerian Professional Football League NPFL, and already got a winner for this season, the battle for top 3 will be on the way next for a slot to represent Nigeria in the continental level come next year.
It will be battle royale for 4 teams who still stand a chance to make it to the continent with just two matches remaining.
With position number 1and 2 already claimed by Rivers United and Plateau United respectively, Remo Stars, Kwara United, Enugu Rangers and Enyimba will tussle for the remaining slot in Africa. 4 points separate 3rd place Remo and 6th place Enyimba. As it stands, anyone can clinch remaining ticket but Remo Stars are in pole position to get away with the ticket. Going into the last two games, one will expect a magical football that will favour those who can play the game better than the other both on and off the pitch.
To this effect, Enugu Rangers’ Captain Tope Olusesi is talking tough on finishing this season with a continental ticket. Tope is stating that the Flying Antelopes will continue to fight and they will try to win their final two games so that they can pick a continental spot. As it stands Remo Stars occupy that position but according to the skipper, they will fight to claim it from Remo Stars. “We still have the hopes of getting to the continent. Remo Stars just took advantage of our draw at home and we hope that things will turn out to our own favour at the end of the day.”
Rangers International have as tricky encounter in the remaining two fixtures of the season. The Enugu based team will have to visit Gombe United in match day 37, though not sure of totally escaping relegation, but quite impossible to go down according to bookmakers.
Rangers will also in the final day, have to host Akwa United who are not a total write off in the continental battle as they are just two points behind Enugu Rangers on the league table.
