Lagos based clubs side, MFM FC were the first team to be relegated from the 2021/2022 NPFL season. The Olukoya Boys’ late surge to survive the downfall was not going to save them for falling hence a 2-1 defeat at home to Niger Tornadoes condemned them to the NNL.
The Olukoya Boys did have a good run of form at the latter stages of the season where they drew in Aba against Enyimba, picked a draw in Ibadan against Shooting Stars to go unbeaten in 5 consecutive.
Despite changing gaffers 4 times in the course of the season, it was all to late for them as Lagos will be without a club in Nigeria topflight for next season.
A club that has produced great memories in their 6 years stay at the top with a representation on the continent but every good story, the end has come for them.
Albeit, Festus Allen, the head coach of the club and the fourth coach of the side believes the team will bounce back sooner than expected.
“We are confirmed relegated but that is not the end of life. I am confident that we will be back in the #NPFL very soon. This is one of the pendulums of life. We just have to face it.”
MFM started the season wit Sola Balogun before returning Olalekan Gabriel to head coach. Lekan was later replace by Christian Ikechukwu before the baton fell to Festus Allen.
MFM could only gather 36 points from 38 games with a goal difference of minus 25, the worst amongst the club in the drop zone.
The Olukoya Boys will now join other Lagos club like Sporting Lagos and Ikorodu City in the Nigeria National League to battle for promotion to the NPFL next season.
