MFM FC failed to pick up a win after their loss to Jigawa Golden Stars in Matchday 18 of the NPFL as they were held back to a 1-1 draw by FC Ifeanyi Ubah. MFM had control of the game early on with so much possession but nothing in terms of creativity.
Coach of the side, Olalekan Gabriel brought on midfield maestro Akanni Elijah who he had rested due to fatigue, to help change the game and he did bring the change in the first five minutes after his introduction as he provided the assist for the opener with a beautifully threaded pass.
“While we were watching the game in the first half, the coach came to me and told me to observe what’s going on, no penetrating passes and we need that so as to score one or two goals,” Elijah told Sports247. “So when I came on, with two-three passes I was able to create the assist and after the goal, he called me to say well done. I think we can do better and we just have to keep going. I think we were affected by the loss of concentration,” he added.
Elijah explained that the coach already told him beforehand that he would not be starting but going into the next game against the same side, they’re going to win even as FC Ifeanyi Ubah will not be playing in their traditional home in Anambra but in Enugu.
“That place is neutral ground. It’s everybody’s home and so we’re going there to win and not to fight for a draw,” Elijah said.
