It was a shambolic performance put up by the Flying Antelopes in their last NPFL game against Plateau United as they lost 4-0 to the northerners. Rangers International of Enugu need to get ready to stand up, dust off, and recover from their last disgraceful loss if they will stand a chance of getting a slot in continental football next year.
Rangers have fumbled in getting results in recent matches which have played down the fact that they are a force to reckon with in this season’s NPFL. In view of forging ahead, Rangers’ next match against Wikki Tourist which has been described as a make or mar encounter for the club by its players comes up on Wednesday 1st June in the Awka City Stadium, and if they want their dreams of playing continental football next season to come through, then they must put their loss behind them fast, get back on track and focus on this next game.
According to the chief coach of the Flying Antelopes of Enugu, Abdul Makaiba, the Rangers have lost enough ground in the continental race as the season is gradually coming to an end. He emphatically stated that the team needs to enhance their performance if the idea of playing at the continental level is anything to go by. ” We have lost enough ground already and we need to enhance our chances of a continental spot. The game against Wikki Tourist will be tough but we have our work cut out to get a win and push clear of the chasing team” Makaiba stated as reported by the Media Officer, Rangers International F.C.
In the twenty-team log NPFL 2021/2022 season, Rangers occupies the 3rd position with 48 points after 30 rounds of matches. Closely chased are Remo Stars and Kwara United in 4th and 5th positions respectively with 46 points each as they also are hungry for continental actions. Not forgetting a much more experienced Enyimba in 6th position with 45 points.
Putting in mind that the first two on the log at the end of the season will qualify for the CAF Champions League which looks like a done deal for Rivers United and Plateau United, Maikaba and his boys will definitely face an uphill task to clinch on the final continental ticket as other teams are also ready to lose sleep on it as well.
