Heartland FC lost their third game out of four played in the 2024/2025 NPFL, but the Coach of the team, Emmanuel Amuneke is unfazed by the poor start, saying it’s a gradual process linking their slow progress to the prophetic proverb of ‘Rome was not built in a day’, Sports 247 reports.
Heartland FC lost 1-0 in Ibadan last Sunday against Shooting Stars, having recorded 3-1 losses against Rivers United and Enyimba International.

Emmanuel Amuneke’s team has just a point in possible 12 points languishing at the bottom of the log, looking like a team destined for the drop as the Naze Millionaires are still looking for their first victory of the season.
However, the former Super Eagles winger, hopes the team will pick up. Amuneke saw an improvement in the performance of the team against Shooting Stars of Ibadan as the rebuilding process is gradually taking shape.
“Heartland is an historical team and over the years a lot has happened. We came in trying to stabilise the team and try to see how we can bring different ideas,”
“We also have to know that Rome was not built in a day. This is what we are trying to do to establish that confidence that people can believe in their team and hopefully the team will pick up” he told Journalist after the Shooting Stars game.
The coach lamented his team’s lack of concentration which cost them the defeat but he was impressed by the second half performance of his team.
“Unfortunately we conceded the goal at the point we lost concentration. But in the second half, we controlled the game and we tried to mount pressure on our opponent. We couldn’t take our chances unfortunately”, said Amuneke.
Heartland’s next match game in the NPFL is against Niger Tornadoes on Sunday in Owerri.
Heartland FC got relegated at the end of last season but they were reinstated into the league after Beyond Limits Academy, one of the promoted teams from the lower tier, were declared not fit to participate in the league.
Coach Emmanuel Amuneke was appointed a few weeks to the kick off of the 2024/2025 season.
